welcome to tonyhern.co.uk
This website is dedicated to the noble arts of flyfishing and flydressing.
Tony began fly-fishing at the age of 9, on the streams and rivers running off Dartmoor.
Fernworthy reservoir in the Teign catchment was a favourite venue during the 70s, fishing such fabled patterns as the Red Tag, Peter Ross and Teal Blue and Silver.
Meanwhile, together with father Rupert, a small put and take trout fishery had been created on the family farm in South Devon by the end of 1975.
Working life began in 1979 as an underkeeper on the River Test on the Leckford Estate at Longstock, Hants, the beginning of an immensely enjoyable 40 year career in Trout Fisheries Management.
After graduating from Sparsholt College, Hampshire with a distinction in Fisheries Management in 1982, he managed Rockbourne Fishery in the New Forest for 10 years, before spending a further 28 years developing the Albury Estate Fisheries on the Duke of Northumberland's Albury Estate near Guildford in Surrey.
Very recently, after taking voluntary redundancy at Albury in late 2020, Tony has now turned his attention to operating as a full time flyfishing guide and fly dresser, with a speciality in running training courses for flyfishing beginners and improvers across Southern England, in particular, the South West.
